Rhinelander High School’s FBLA/DECA chapter is once again organizing a statewide community service initiative to collect non-perishable food items for local families in need.
Student members will distribute collection bags throughout the community on Saturday, October 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. The filled bags will be collected one week later on October 26 during the same hours.
The Trick or Can initiative leverages the Halloween season’s spirit of community engagement to address food insecurity, according to a school district press release.
According to the organization, DECA chapters across Wisconsin have increasingly adopted the program as a signature service project. Participating residents will receive bags with informational flyers detailing acceptable donations. Community members are asked to fill the bags with non-perishable items and leave them outside their homes for pickup on the designated collection date. All collected donations will be delivered to the Rhinelander Food Pantry for distribution to area families.
