Posted

Four artists from the Mexican Folk Art Collective recently visited local public schools to share traditional Mexican art forms. According to a School District of Rhinelander press release, this is the fifth year the district has offered the Culture Tap program, a unique collaboration with ArtStart, Nicolet College, and the Rhinelander Community Foundation,

While studying the novel Esperanza Rising, 5th-grade students engaged in interactive workshops:

· Hand-crafting brightly colored alebrijes sculptures with Gaby

· Experiencing traditional Mexican folk dance with Alejandra

· Composing music and playing instruments with Jessica and Juny

· Creating custom yarn dolls

The community was also invited to a special evening at Nacho’s Mexican Restaurant. The event featured artist performances alongside traditional Lotería games that included prizes donated by Nacho’s.

Special thanks to the Rhinelander Community Foundation for helping with funding for this program through a generous grant, and to all our partner organizations for enriching our community, the release states.
