Downtown Rhinelander will soon have a new splash of color as Canadian muralist Alixandra Jade begins painting the “Greetings from Rhinelander” mural on the Flanders Realty building at 2 N. Brown Street.
According to a press release from the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce, Jade began the project on Monday, Oct. 12. The mural will draw inspiration from the classic destination postcard style, incorporating imagery and elements that celebrate Rhinelander’s identity and Northwoods character, the release states. The mural was commissioned by the chamber, which has led the project from its initial concept through artist selection and coordination of the installation. Funded by the Rhinelander Tourism & Marketing Committee (RTMC), the project reflects a shared commitment to enhancing downtown Rhinelander and creating memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike, the release states.
“Rhinelander is a community that values its history, which is one of the reasons this vintage postcard style really spoke to our committee,” said Lauren Sackett, CEO of the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce. “We want this mural to be something our community is proud of and something visitors seek out, take photos with and remember from their time in Rhinelander.”
Alixandra Jade is a multidisciplinary artist and muralist whose portfolio includes large-scale public art projects throughout Canada and the United States. Community members are encouraged to watch the mural come to life and follow the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce on social media for updates throughout the installation. The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce extends its thanks to Joe and Kasha Flanders, Wild Graphics, RTMC and members of the mural committee for their time, support and investment in bringing this project to life.
