Driver airlifted to Wausau following rollover crash in Nokomis

The Oneida County sheriff's office reports that a 20-year-old Rhinelander man was airlifted to  Aspirus Wausau Hospital Wednesday evening after he lost control of a 1986 corvette at the intersection of County Highway K and Mitchell Lane in the Town of Nokomis.

According to a press release issued by captain Tyler Young, the sheriff's office received mutliple calls reporting the crash which took place  at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

 Initial investigation showed that a 1986 Chevy Corvette, operated by Gabriel M. Wallmow of Rhinelander, was westbound on County Highway K, the release states. "Witnesses stated that they were passed by the corvette, and it was traveling at a high rate of speed," the release continues. "The driver lost control of the vehicle and it entered the northern ditch, went airborne, rolling several times."

Wallmow, the sole occupant of the corvette, was ejected during the crash. He was transported by
Oneida County ambulance to Tomahawk Aspirus Hospital and later flown by LifeLink III helicopter to Wausau.

The investigation is ongoing and the accident report will be completed by the Wisconsin State
Patrol with assistance of the Oneida County sheriff’s office, the release states.
On scene assisting the sheriff’s office were personnel from the State
Patrol, Oneida County Ambulance Service, Nokomis First Responders, Nokomis Fire
Department, Cassian Fire Department, and the Oneida County Highway Department.
