Local group spreading the word about multiple sclerosis
MS Awareness Week is March 11-17. To help increase awareness of multiple sclerosis, the mayors of Rhinelander and Eagle River met with members of the Northwoods MS Self Help Group at Rhinelander City Hall the morning of Tuesday, March 5. The two mayors read proclamations regarding MS awareness, and the support group’s volunteer facilitator, Janet Marie Carlstedt, talked about the importance of increasing MS awareness in the community.
MS walks help raise funds for research and awareness of the disease. They have been held in Wisconsin for a number of years, but the first MS walk in Rhinelander will be held Saturday, May 11, at Rhinelander High School. The next planning committee meeting will be held Tuesday, March 19, at 6 p.m. at the YMCA of the Northwoods. Anyone interested in helping plan the event is welcome to attend.
The Northwoods MS Self Help Group meets the third Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. at Grace Four Square Church, 4360 Hwy. 17, Rhinelander. For more information, call Carlstedt at (715) 545-2245.
