The Dam Plan needs to be investigated
Editor:
According to a story in the local media, during the recent Oneida County Board elections, candidate Dennis Schoeneck, District 7, candidate Robb Jensen District 11 , candidate Lance Krolczyk District 18 and candidate Ken Dirks District 20 distributed campaign materials telling of a “Dam Plan” formulated at the county level by some supervisors. The flyer asked Oneida County citizens to “Stop Their Dam Project.” This piece of campaign information was distributed to select homes in the county. The mailers were received only days before the April 1 election.
Mr. Krolczyk and Mr. Jensen were elected and now sit on the Oneida County Board.
I am asking the Oneida County Conservation Congress Board, Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, silent sports groups, The Hodag Sports Club, Oneida County Lakes and Rivers Association and other conservation minded groups as well as the chambers of commerce in the county to investigate the plan and get the details of this threat to our lakes and rivers.
I call on towns and cities in the county to determine the level of threat to the tax bases represented by the lakes and rivers and the dams incorporated into some of these water bodies. What will their removal mean to the tax base not to mention recreational opportunities?
I call on citizens to approach their elected officials at every level to protect our dams from the threat of removal posed by the county board of Oneida County. Every elected official should be asked to gather the details of this threat to our dams.
Questions that need to be answered are: 1. What is contained in the “Dam Plan?” 2. Where and when did the “Dam Plan” originate? 3. Who originated the “Dam Plan?” 4. Why was the “Dam Plan” proposed? 5. What are the goals of the “Dam Plan?” 6. At what stage is the “Dam Plan?” 7. What is the Economic Impact of the “Dam Plan” to Oneida County?
All of these questions need to be carefully examined and firm answers found.
I call on citizens Dennis Schoeneck and Ken Dirks as well as Supervisor Jensen and Supervisor Krolczyk to present to the Oneida County Board of Supervisors and concerned citizens a full report on the answers to the questions raised by the flyer.
As is stated in the flyer the “Dam Plan” is “much more than Water over the Dam.”
I could not agree more. That is why a full explanation of the plan is needed so that all the facts are revealed. A plan like this needs full exposure before it is too late.
Bob Mott, Oneida County Supervisor District 7
