Ahlstrom Rhinelander mill awards $6,000 in scholarships

Area high school graduates recognized

Ahlstrom, in partnership with the plant’s union, United Steel Workers
Local 2-0015, awarded six $1000 scholarships to area high school graduates during a
ceremony at the plant on Friday, June 27.
Students pursuing post-high school education in either a university or technical school
setting were encouraged to apply. In addition to their high school coursework, each student

participated in extra-curricular activities, and activities related to their intended field of
study.
“Ahlstrom and USW Local 2-0015 are proud to continue our tradition of awarding local high
school seniors scholarships to further their education,” said Dan McGreaham, Ahlstrom
Rhinelander plant manager. “By supporting our local students through scholarships, we’re
also investing in the future of our communities. We celebrate the achievements of these
graduates and wish them continued success as they pursue their respective fields of study,”
McGreaham added.
This year’s scholarship recipients are:
• Sienna Mahner: Sienna graduated from Rhinelander High School and plans to pursue
studies in Zoology and Animal Biology at UW-Madison.
• Katrina Roof: Katrina graduated from Rhinelander High School and will be attending
UW Green Bay to study pre-veterinary.
• Cadence Lund: A graduate of Rhinelander High School, Cadence will be attending
Nicolet Area Technical College to pursue early childhood education.
• Edward Apfel: A graduate of Northland Pines, Edward will be attending Nicolet Area
Technical College to study Criminal Justice and complete the police academy.
• Emma Leigh Deede: A graduate of Rhinelander High School, Emma Leigh will be
attending UW Stevens Point to pursue Elementary education, aspiring to become a
kindergarten teacher.
• Lilyanna Gleason: A graduate of Three Lakes, Lilyanna will be attending Northern
Michigan University to pursue interests in biology with an emphasis in ecology and
wildlife studies.
