Obituary: Thomas Vevea
Thomas Wayne Vevea, age 81, passed away Nov. 17, 2018 in Minnesota near family, but he will always be a Hodag at heart.
Tom was born in Rhinelander on June 15, 1937 to Donald and Marjorie (Oelhafen) Vevea. He graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1955 and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a degree in history, economics, and English. He worked at Rhinelander Paper Company for 20 years, later owned Vevea’s Sports Bait & Gas, and was an agent for Security Health Plan.
Poppy will be remembered for his kindness, humility, charm, and most of all, his humor. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Nancy (Hager) Vevea; his three children Eric Vevea of Apple Valley, Minn., Dirk (Mary) Vevea of Edgar, Wisc., and Jennifer (Todd) Schnobrich of Medina, Minn. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren Danielle Vevea (Tom Schweitzer), Becky Vevea (Dan Pfeiffer), Derek (Lauren) and Brett Schnobrich, and Nicolet, Gabrielle, and Isabelle Vevea; and his great grandchildren Jack and Lorraine (Lola) Schweitzer and two expected in 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald Vevea and Marjorie (Oelhafen Vevea) Nicholas and his sister Marsha (Vevea) Hildebrand. Tom is also survived by loved ones in the Schiek, Hildebrand, Juday, Marcus, Hager, and Hurlbutt families.
Private services will be held. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, please support the Rhinelander Public Library. Carlson Funeral Home is serving the family.
