Wissbroecker earns spot on 2018 UW-Whitewater volleyball roster
Hope Wissbroecker, a 2018 graduate of Rhinelander High School, will compete for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team during the 2018 season, which begins this Friday.
Five of the Warhawks’ seven starters from last season are set to return in 2018. Wissbroecker is one of eight newcomers to the program.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team enters the 2018 season with expectations to compete for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Warhawks, who open play net Friday, reached the WIAC Tournament title match for the fifth straight year and finished with a 22-8 record, including a 5-2 mark in conference play, in 2017. The team posted 13 straight wins between Sept. 20-Oct. 21 last year before dropping four straight to close the regular season.
UW-Whitewater, the favorite of the league’s coaches and athletic communications personnel to win the conference title, kicks off the new campaign next Friday and Saturday with the UW-Whitewater Invite. The team will face Franklin (Ind.) and Minnesota Morris on Friday before hosting Coe (Iowa) and 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifier DePauw (Ind.) on Saturday.
The Warhawks start WIAC play Sept. 19 at UW-Stevens Point and wrap up the conference slate during the final week of the regular season with matches against UW-La Crosse on Oct. 24 and at UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 26.
UW-Whitewater closes the regular season Oct. 27 against Concordia Wisconsin. The WIAC Tournament begins Oct. 30, and the NCAA Tournament starts Nov. 9.
