Rhinelander grad honored with other foster youth in Madison
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
A 2018 Rhinelander High School graduate was one of 50 current and former foster youth recently honored for their academic accomplishments at the Wisconsin Executive Residence in Madison.
Elizabeth Glut was at the celebration hosted by First Lady Tonette Walker and Department of Children and Families Secretary Eloise Anderson.
“Many foster youth face struggles most of us couldn’t imagine,” said Walker. “When we learn about young people who beat the odds and achieve success, it’s time to celebrate. Resilience, perseverance, hope – these are just a few of the lessons we can learn from the graduates here today.”
Nationally, about 54 percent of foster youth graduate high school and 2 percent go on to college. The 50 graduates at the celebration represented the 114 foster youth throughout the state who have graduated in the 2017-18 academic year.
