BOYS SOCCER: Hodags down Medford, then go 1-0-1 at D.C. Everest Invite

The Rhinelander High School varsity boys soccer team competed in three games in three days at the end of last week, winning two and tying the other.
The Hodags won Thursday in Great Northern Conference play at Medford, 3-1.
RHS scored first 8:51 in the first half on a goal from Jonus Sabani assisted by Daniel Ritchie. The Hodags extended their lead to 2-0 late in the first half when Hugh Wiese scored assisted by Sabani. RHS pulled out to a three-goal lead early in the second half when Sabani scored with an assist by Matthew Von Oepen.
The Hodags held a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal with Josh Randolph making five save to record the win in net.
RHS 3, WAUSAU WEST 2
The Hodags opened a two-day invitational hosted by D.C. Everest with a 3-2 victory Friday over Wausau West.
Sabani tallied both of RHS’s first-half goals to jump out to a 2-0 lead, scoring one unassisted and the other with an assist from Von Oepen.
After Wausau West tied the game by scoring once in the first half and adding a second-half goal, Wiese recorded the game-winning goal for the Hodags 28:33 into the second half with an assist from Sabani.
Wausau West held a 13-12 advantage in shots on goal. Randolph recorded the win in net.
RHS 1, SPASH 1
The Hodags closed out play at the invitational Saturday with a 1-1 tie against Stevens Point Area Senior High.
RHS tallied its only goal 14:55 into the first half when Von Oepen scored assisted by Sabani. SPASH’s tying goal came 15:48 into the second half.
SPASH ended up with an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. Randolph made 10 saves.
The Hodags’ season record stands at 5-0 in the GNC and 9-2-2 overall going into Thursday’s conference game at Antigo.
