STAR JOURNAL REPORT

The Nicolet Bird Club is sponsoring “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Bird Banding,” 6:30 p.m., Aug. 18 at the Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes.

The presentation by retired DNR biologist and licensed Master Bird Bander Bruce Bacon, will include all facets of the bird banding process and how biologists and ornithologists use resulting data in their efforts to manage habitats and to conserve populations of our most beloved bird species:

  • How banding gives remarkable insight into birds’ lives.
  • Population trends: How long do birds live and to what extent are populations growing / declining?
  • Where do they go? What migration routes do they take and how far do they travel?
  • How is banding success measured?

Bruce has more than 25 years of hands-on, in-the-field experience and has many stories to share. The event is free and open to the public.
