BOYS TENNIS: Hodags off to a good start
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
The Rhinelander High School tennis team traveled to Medford Thursday and swept the Raiders 7-0. It was, coach Bob Heideman said, the earliest-played spring match in his 33 years coaching; sunny but windy and cold.
“The play in general was ragged with a lot of shots hitting the frames of the raquets,” Heideman said. “The positive was we were able to win the close sets, which there were six of.”
Juniors Jared Fabich and Grant Gilbert had a nice come back in their second set, down 2-4, to win 7-5 at #1 doubles. Russell Benoy, at #4 singles and Jonas Saboni, #3 doubles with Marshall Bessette, picked up their first varsity wins. Heideman said it was good to see Bessette back in the lineup, adding experience to the team. Logan Keso, previously a doubles player, adapted his game and came away with a victory at #3 singles.
