BOYS SWIMMING: Thunderbirds sink Hodags, 104.5-64.5

The Rhinelander High School boys swimming team placed first in only three of the 11 varsity events Thursday when the Hodags lost their Great Northern Conference dual meet at Lakeland Union High School, 104.5-64.5.
Two of RHS’s top finishes came from Nolan Francis winning both the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 3.2 seconds) and 100 backstroke (58.8).
The Hodags’ Russell Benoy won the 100 freestyle (55.32) and placed second in the 50 freestyle (24.64).
RHS’s other second-place individual finishes came from David King in the 500 freestyle (6:12:97) and Thaddeus Heck in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.57).
The Hodags also placed second to the Thunderbirds in all three relay events.
RHS added third-place finishes from Heck in the 200 individual medley (2:37.35), King in the 100 butterfly (1:05.38) and Devon Gaber in the 100 freestyle (1:02.95).
Up next for the Hodags, who are now 0-3 in GNC dual meets, is an invitational they host Saturday.
