CROSS COUNTRY: Alayna Franson wins Hatchet Invite
Hodags girls, boys both 4th

Rhinelander High School junior Alayna Franson has won another cross country race.
Franson, who reached the finish line first at Saturday’s Hatchet Invitational at the Edgewater Country Club in Tomahawk, once again was the only girls cross country runner to finish the 5,000-meter course in under 20 minutes with her winning time of 19:52.77, more than 11 ½ seconds ahead of the runner-up, Lakeland Union High School senior Lauren Schilling.
The Hodag girls had one other runner in the top 10, junior Anna Sturzl, who placed eighth in 21:04.27.
RHS, which ended up fourth out of eight teams with at least five finishers, had three seniors as the other runners who scored in the standings. Gracie Quinn placed 22nd in 22:02.89, Payton Hartman came in 31st in 22:51.42 and Carmen Incha finished 33rd in 22:54.74.
LUHS topped the team standings at 37, followed by Chequamegon (54), Mosinee (84), RHS (90) and Tomahawk (103) rounding out the top five.
BRIDGER FLORY 14TH
The Hodag boys didn’t have any individual finishers in the top 10 when they placed fourth out of 10 teams.
LUHS also had the top boys score at 23, followed by Chequamegon (59), Tomahawk (82), RHS (128) and Phillips (150) in the top five.
Nekoosa/Port Edwards junior Miguel Mathias was the only boy to finish in less than 16 minutes with a winning time of 15:55.56. LUHS junior Kav FitzPatrick ended up runner-up in 16:35.82.
RHS’s best finish came from sophomore Bridger Flory, who placed 14th in 17:37.52. The other four Hodag boys whose finishes counted toward the team total included senior Tyler Kolasa (25th in 18:12.39), senior Robert Ritchie (28th in 18:22.26) junior Markus Johnson (33rd in 18:35.02) and freshman Daniel Ritchie (38th in 18:47.37).
Up next for the Hodags this coming Saturday is the Great Northern Conference meet at the Nine-Mile County Forest in the Wausau area.
