CROSS COUNTRY: Hodag girls, Alayna Franson top Northland Pines Invite

Rhinelander High School junior Alayna Franson reached the finish line first Tuesday when the Hodag girls cross country team won the Northland Pines Invitational.
RHS topped the five-team standings at 32, followed by Antigo (62), Northland Pines (77), Three Lakes (85) and Crandon (109).
Franson was the only girls runner to finish on the 5,000-meter course in less than 20 minutes with her winning time of 19:52. Three Lakes freshman Kortnie Volk placed runner-up in 20:07.4.
Three other Hodag girls runners placed in the top 10 with junior Anna Sturzl fourth in 21:31.4, senior Gracie Quinn fifth in 22:28.8 and senior Payton Hartman eighth in 22:42.7. RHS’s fifth finisher who counted toward the team total, senior Carmen Incha, placed 14th in 23:45.9.

The Hodag boys had three top-10 finishers, but ended up fourth in the five-team standings.
Northland Pines had the top score of 30, followed by Crandon (59), Antigo (70), RHS (73) and Florence (134).
Crandon senior Tanner Moris was the top individual finisher in 17:16.7. Hodags sophomore Bridger Flory was more than 52 second off the winning pace when he placed fifth in 18:09.
RHS’s other two finishers in the top 10 included junior Markus Johnson (seventh in 18:18.5) and senior Tyler Kolasa (eighth in 18:20.2).
The Hodags’ final two finishers who counted toward the team score included Konnor Kennedy (25th in 20:37.2) and Anthony Gaudioso (28th in 20:53.1).
RHS’s next meet is an invitational Saturday morning at the Edgewater Country Club in Tomahawk.
