OBITUARY: Robert “Bob” Conquest
Robert “Bob” Conquest, age 86 of King, and formerly of Three Lakes, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. He was born February 1, 1930, in Chicago to Victor and Ella (Bensing) Conquest.
Following high school, Bob served in the U.S. Navy. On September 25, 1954, he married Jacqueline Hansen in Chicago and they would share over 61 wonderful years together, holding hands to the end. Bob and Jacqueline moved to the Northwoods where they operated the Sunset Shores Resort on Medicine Lake in Three Lakes in addition to starting their family of two children. During the winter months, he would operate the ski lift at Shelter Valley ski area.
Bob sold the resort and then began his career in law enforcement as a deputy with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department and later became Chief Deputy until the time of his retirement after many years of faithful service. He was a member of numerous law enforcement organizations, was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Three Lakes, and enjoyed golf including membership at Big Stone Golf Course as well as wintering in Texas with Jacqueline in retirement.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Conquest of King; his two children, Ken (Deb) Conquest of Streamwood, Ill. and Pam (Mark) Briggs of Three Lakes; eight grandchildren, Jason (Courtney), Sierra (Matt), Cory, Kelsey, Kasey, Cody, Kellee and Carson; four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Rex, Lincoln, and Charlotte; and a sister, Dorothy Campbell of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Victor.
The funeral service for Bob will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Grace Lutheran Church in Three Lakes with Rev. Allen Montgomery officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Interment will follow in the Three Lakes Cemetery.
