Vote in the August partisan primary
Editor:
The next election is a partisan primary on August 9. In a partisan primary, voters may vote on the ballot of only one political party. There are several offices where more than one person is running for an office from the same party in our area:
Democratic and Republican candidates for U.S. Senator
Republican and Democratic candidates for the 7th U.S Congressional District
Democratic candidates for Assembly Districts 34 and 35
District Attorneys in the counties of Lincoln (Democratic candidates) and Vilas (Republican candidates)
Oneida County Clerk – Republican candidates
Vilas County Register of Deeds – Republican candidates
When there is not a candidate from another party also running, the person elected in the partisan primary will be the person who will take office after the November election. It’s important for you to vote in this election, especially for the District Attorney and county offices. Your vote will decide the winner, in many cases. To help you make an informed choice go to vote411.org. The League of Women Voters has invited candidates to participate in an online voter’s guide. Candidates were asked to complete a form with biographical information and several questions in which they were able to explain their reason for running and their plans when elected or reelected. Go to myvote.wi.gov to find your polling location; see who will be on your ballot; update your name or address; register; and vote absentee. Be sure to bring your photo ID with you August 9. For more information about an acceptable photo ID and the exceptions, visit http://bringit.wi.gov.
