Expera increases height to comply with federal regulations
STAR JOURNAL REPORT
Work on one of the Expera Specialty Solutions stacks can be seen from throughout the city of Rhinelander and even further. The construction team is currently placing a structure over and around the current stack.
The extension is needed to comply with emissions standards for hydrogen chloride and mercury.
Expera received approval in early April from the Rhinelander City Council on a conditional use permit to increase the height of one of its stacks to 296 feet, to meet requirements from the EPA and DNR. At 300 feet the stack would interfere with Federal Aviation Administration rules.
