Beware of WPS scammers again
Star Journal Report
Wisconsin Public Service has reported their call center is receiving numerous scam calls. According to WPS Public Relations Manager Lisa Prunty, when scammers begin to call it seems they like to target certain businesses. Today the service territory in the west has numerous reports from the restaurant industry. The Green Bay area day cares are being targeted as well.
It’s the same message. Pay within 45 minutes or your power will be cut off. Prunty said WPS would never tell a customer that we would disconnect power within 45 minutes or ask to have them go to a Walgreens, CVS or Big Box store to obtain a prepaid card.
“We continue to educate our customers,” Prunty stated in a press release. “We hope we have less people scammed and more people calling us to report the scams.”
Anyone who has had one of these phone calls is asked to call WPS and ask us questions about the account in question before providing any personal information over the phone.
