Hodag softball, baseball to both open WIAA playoffs at home

The Rhinelander High School softball team has received a No. 3 seed in its WIAA Division 2 sectional bracket and also earned an opening-round bye in regional play that begins Tuesday.
The Hodags will host their first playoff game at 5 p.m. Wednesday when they face the winner of Tuesday’s regional opener at Medford between the No. 6-seeded Raiders and No. 11-seeded Sparta. Wednesday’s winner advances to next Friday’s regional final at a location and against an opponent to be determined.
The sectional semifinal in the bracket RHS is in is set for 5 p.m. May 31 in the Medford area with the sectional championship game scheduled for 5 p.m. June 2 in Merrill.
Other teams in the Hodags’ sectional bracket and their seeds include Mosinee (1), La Crosse Logan (2), Merrill (4), Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (5), Tomahawk (7), Black River Falls (8), Onalaska (9), West Salem (10), Lakeland (12) and Northland Pines (13).
RHS BASEBALL NO. 8 SEED IN D1
The Hodags’ baseball team, which is competing in the WIAA’s Division 1, will also play its first regional game at home. RHS received a No. 8 seed and will face No. 9-seeded D.C. Everest at 5 p.m. May 31 at Hodag Park.
The winner of the regional opener will head to Green Bay to face the sectional bracket’s No. 1 seed, the Preble Hornets, on June 2. The regional’s second-round winner advances to the sectionals being held June 7 at Bay Port High School.
Other team in RHS’s sectional bracket and their seeds include Bay Port (2), Pulaski (3), Wausau West (4), Antigo (5), Green Bay East/West (6), Notre Dame (7), Ashwaubenon (10) Wausau West (11) and Green Bay Southwest (12).
