Hodag baseball team raids Medford, then gets swept by Rapids

The Rhinelander High School baseball team picked up another Great Northern Conference victory on the road before being swept in a non-conference home doubleheader.
The Hodags scored eight runs in the top of the sixth Thursday when they were victorious in six innings at Medford, 17-3.
RHS’s Brandon Reinthaler pitched the first 4 2/3 innings and recorded the victory, allowing all three runs, two earned, on three hits with seven walks while striking out two. Brandon Hess closed out the final 1 1/3 innings when the only the only batter who reached base for the Raiders was hit by a pitch.
Of the Hodags’ nine hits, Brad Comer and Tyler Blomdahl had two apiece. Comer had a pair of singles and drove in three runs. Blomdahl, who hit a second-inning solo home run, also singled.
Hess and Josh Randolph each singled with 2 RBI. Jacob DeMeyer, Brad Quade and Tait Spencer also singled.
WR 11, RHS 8
The Hodags hosted a non-conference doubleheader Saturday against Medford and lost the first game, 11-8.
RHS led 5-3 going into the final inning before giving up eight runs in the top of the seventh.
The Hodags’ Kurt Zuiker pitched the first five 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits with five walks with a hit batter and striking out five. DeMeyer relieved Zuiker and ended up picking up the loss working two-thirds of an inning. DeMeyer allowed seven earned runs on four hits with a walk and two hit batters. Easton Senoraske pitched the final two-thirds of an innings, allowing an unearned run.
DeMeyer accounted for three of RHS’s seven hits with two singles, a double and 2 RBI. Blomdahl added two singles. Reinthaler doubled and drove in a run. Alec Modrow singled with 2 RBI.
WR 8, RHS 7
The Hodags jumped out to a seven-run lead before giving up eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and dropping the twin bill’s second game to Rapids, 8-7.
Hess pitched the first five shutout innings for the Hodags, allowing three hits with three walks and striking out two. Senoraske lasted only a third of an inning in the sixth when he was charged for seven runs, one earned, on two hits with two walks. Reinthaler pitched the final two-thirds of the sixth inning and ended up with the loss, allowing an earned run on a hit with three walks.
Blomdahl accounted for two of RHS’s six hits with a single and a home run with 3RBI. Modrow doubled and drove in two runs. Senoraske, DeMeyer and Comer each singled.
The Hodags’ season record stands at 6-3 in the GNC and 11-6 overall going into Monday’s non-conference home game against Merrill.
