Obituary: Rosemary Julia Smith
Rosemary Julia Smith, age 73, of the Town of Pine Lake, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at her home and in the company of her family. She was born March 7, 1943, in Rhinelander to Theodore and Frances (Novak) Sachse. She grew up on the Sachse farm in Sugar Camp and attended Rhinelander High School. Rosemary worked at Triumph Twist Drill for over 29 years and retired in 2005. She loved growing plants, watching her soap operas, creating crafts of many varieties and spending time with her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers Raymond, Leonard and Stephen Olkowski, and Ernest, Theodore, Walter and Dennis Sachse; and sister Madeline Schultz. She is survived by her husband, Donald “Sonny” Smith; brother Edward (Leona) Olkowski of Rhinelander; son Terry Bruyette of Rhinelander; daughters Laurie (Dan) Morris and Denise Lafferty of Rhinelander, and Sunny Smith of Sarasota, Fla.; step-sons Dean (Dawn) Smith of Naples, Fla., and Donald Smith of Starks; grandchildren Lee, Shane and Amber Thorstenson, Dakota Shepherd, Julia Burke, Melinda Machac, Angela Buttice, Rose, Ashley and Caitlyn Bruyette, Jacob Dietzler, and Donald, Stephanie and Dalton Smith; 16 great-grandchildren; special “daughters,” Meredith Michalski, Lisa Lundberg and Amy Mikkelson; special “sisters,” Bunnie Daugherty and Marti Smith; beloved friend JoJo Moes; many nieces and nephews and treasured friends; and her loving feline, Jupiter. Carlson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosemary’s name to the Colon Cancer Coalition (coloncancercoalition.org) for colon cancer awareness, education and research programs.
