Rhinelander man drowned in Wisc. River
A Rhinelander man is dead following an early morning kayak accident on the Wisconsin River.
According to Oneida County Chief Deputy Dan Hess, the body of 25-year old Kyle J. Holquist of Rhinelander was pulled from the backwaters of Boom Lake around 11:30 Sunday morning.
Approximately 3 a.m. Sunday April 10, Oneida County Dispatch received a 911 call of two subjects that fell out of kayaks and into the water by 3907 Trails End Loop in the Town of Pine Lake. The Oneida County Public Safety Dive Team was dispatched to the scene with Newbold Fire Department and Pine Lake Fire Department. One of the subjects, 23-year old Andrew J. Berrell of Rhinelander, was able to get out of the water and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital.
Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Newbold Fire Department, Pine Lake Fire Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Little Rice Fire Department Canteen, Oneida County Medical Examiner Office, Rhinelander Rescue and Oneida County EMS.
The Oneida County Sheriff and the Oneida Medical Examiner Office are continuing the investigation into the events surrounding the death.
