Obituary: Francis F. “Butch” Alsteen
Francis F. “Butch” Alsteen, age 73 of Rhinelander, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston. Butch was born in Pine Lake on October 29, 1942 to Lester and Ann (Gauthier) Alsteen. He attended schools in Rhinelander. Butch was united in marriage to Kathryn Wittbecker at Trinity Lutheran Church on September 10, 1966. He worked on a potato farm in Starks where he drove a tractor. The couple moved to Portage where Butch was employed by a company that built trailer homes. The family later moved to Bloomer and lived there for a few years. During this time Butch was employed as a Bartender. They later moved to Tomahawk where he was employed by the Hyplastics Company working in the Mold Department of Hyrider Boats. The family moved to Alaska where Butch was employed by a janitorial service and where he also was employed by Shell Oil. They eventually moved back to Rhinelander. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and riding his motorcycle. Butch enjoyed playing pool and had been on a pool league playing for Carmy’s. Surviving is his loving wife Kathryn, one daughter, Ann (Bob) Flanders of Kenai, Alaska; four grandchildren, Christopher Alsteen of Rhinelander, Patrisha Recha (Brett) Hershberger of Anchorage, Alaska, Jennifer Recha, of Kenai, Alaska and Clayton DeBroux of Antigo; four great-grandchildren, Landon, McKenzie, Makayla and Nevaeh. Also surviving are three brothers, Donald (Sharon) Alsteen of Tomahawk, Kenny Alsteen of Rhinelander and Dewy Alsteen of Rhinelander; four sisters, Loretta “Koots” Voldness of Minn,, Barbara Moore of Tomahawk, Sharon Alsteen of Tomahawk and Shirley (Bill) Bickett of Tomahawk; two uncles, Ray Alsteen and Norman Alsteens; special nieces and nephew, Rose and Harvey Moore and April Moore. Butch is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Johnny Alsteen and two brothers-in-law, Harvey Moore and Lauren Voldness.
