Blood donors needed
Winter Storm Ashley Slows Blood Donations
The Community Blood Center has experienced numerous appointment and blood drive cancellations in the area over the past 2 days due to Winter Storm Ashley and its impact on area roads. These cancellations have depleted the local blood inventory. Because the need for blood does not slow down during inclement weather, we are reaching out to the community to help replenish our blood supply.
Donors of all blood types are encouraged to make a blood donation to ensure blood is available to patients in need. Please call 800-280-4102 to make an appointment to donate blood or platelets to ensure our shelves are stocked for the upcoming weeks.
“The safety of our donors and staff is extremely important during inclement weather. Now that travel is safe again, we ask that donors, both existing and first-time donors, make an appointment to help us restock our shelves so that patients have the life-sustaining blood products they need,” said Kris Belanger, Vice President of Donor Services.
There is no substitute for human blood, and one in seven people entering a hospital need blood. The limited shelf life of blood products requires that our supplies be continually replenished.
The Community Blood Center has local donor centers in Woodruff and Rhinelander. To make an appointment , please contact us at 800-280-4102 or visit www.communityblood.org.
