Obituary: Therese “Tess” King
Therese “Tess” A. King, age 85 of the Township of Pine Lake, died Friday October 23, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with her family at her side. Tess was born September 3, 1930 in Elcho to John and Otylia (Walentowski) Starjnski. The family lived in Mole Lake, and in 1948 Tess graduated from Crandon High School. She was united in marriage to Norman King in January of 1951. The family lived at Lake George. Tess attended a Beauty College in Green Bay where she graduated in 1955. She had been employed with various hair salons in Rhinelander until 1960 when she became the owner and operator of her own salon in the State Theater Building called Tess’s Beauty Studio. She eventually moved her business in the early 1970’s to her location on King Street. Tess continued to own and operate the salon until 2000. She continued her career as a Beautician until the age of 83 traveling to all her customers, whether they were in a care facility or at home. Tess enjoyed crocheting, fishing, playing card games, cribbage, and was a member of the Town Pump dart ball, and lawn darts leagues. She led a very active life, going to polka dances with her husband Norman and after he passed away, continuing for the past seven years with her dance partner Werner. Tess enjoyed baking, and if you stopped by for a visit you didn’t leave without having some kind of dessert. During the holidays she will always be remembered for spoiling everyone with her baked beans, shrimp salad and caramel apple salad. But most of all, Tess will be remembered for all of the love and caring she provided to her family. She will be dearly missed by her children, Wayne (Susan) King of Rhinelander and Jean Maney of Elcho; five grandchildren, Renee, Shane, Jon, Denise, and Jamie; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Ruth) Starjnski of Grand Marsh; one sister, Alice Lilla of Mosinee and by her special friend, Werner Androsko of Antigo. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Norman in 1992, one son-in-law; John Maney and one brother-in-law, James Lilla. The visitation for Tess will be held Monday, November 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home and on Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service. The Rev. Mike McLain will be officiating. Entombment will take place at Northland Memorial Park. (Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists)
