Team Matrix, the Schtud Boys, took first place in the golf scramble. Chris Fish, Rob Johnson, Dave Morgan and Brett Salscheider show their YMCA spirit.

Money raised benefits the community

The 15th YMCA of the Northwoods Golf Scramble, sponsored by Matrix and Ministry Health Care was held at Pinewood Country Club last week with a record number of golfers, with 88 players and 22 teams participating.

Team Matrix – Schtud Boys, Chris Fish, Rob Johnson, Dave Morgan and Brett Salscheider took first place in the golf scramble. Second place went to Team Down Towners which included Scott Henrichs, Dave Havel, Mark Gutteter and Kurt Hildebrand. Team Schoppe, comprised of Kass Schoppe, Bob Thoms, Ken Schoppe and Pat Dalee came in third place.

The money raised at the golf scramble supports the Y’s Annual Support Campaign. The Annual Support Campaign makes financial assistance available for children and families who otherwise could not afford to participate in YMCA membership and programs.

YMCA of the Northwoods CEO Laurie Schlitt, left, presents Jesse Richter with the cash prize for winning the annual golf ball drop.

The golf ball drop continued to be a highlight of the day. 50/50 raffle tickets were sold and the golf balls were dropped from a helicopter onto the green; the closest ball to the hole won a cash prize, the second closest won a year family membership to the YMCA, and the third closest won a year adult membership to the YMCA. Jesse Richter was the cash prize winner.

YMCA of the Northwoods thanks title sponsors Matrix and Ministry Health Care, as well as Rhinelander GM, Aspirus Clinics, Northland CPA’s, Baraboo National Bank, CoVantage Credit Union, Worksite Solutions, Pepsi, Wisconsin Public Service, Star Journal/Hodag Buyer’s Guide, and Vilas County News Review and Wickersham Jewelry.  Additional thanks went to Dunkin’ Donuts and area businesses that donated items.
