First year success for the Food Pantry greenhouse
The Rhinelander Area Food Pantry greenhouse had a productive spring, resulting in a large crop of vegetable plants. Over 1,000 pepper and tomato plants along with 500 cabbage and broccoli plants were distributed to Food Pantry patrons and area seniors in May and June.
In addition, 50 pre-planted containers of vegetables were distributed. Following their plant sale June 13, the Master Gardeners donated 500 plants that were then available to Food Pantry clients and volunteers.
Tom Jerow, garden and greenhouse co-chair, said he was very pleased with the results of the first greenhouse growing season. He added that he is appreciative to the Kiwanis Club of Rhinelander for donating the greenhouse and to the area Master Gardners for donating the additional plants.
