And finally, some good news!
This story was shared with us by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. Good news is a great way to start the week-
Lincoln County Deputies rescued a lost and starving dog on Monday morning. Staff at Camp Birch Trails Girl Scout Camp, located in the Town of Rock Falls north of Merrill, phoned the Sheriff’s Office on Monday and reported that a dog was trapped on one of the islands on Olivotti Lake.
The staff tried to rescue the dog but they were ill equipped to help the dog off the island as they only have canoes at the camp.
The Recreation Deputy along with another Deputy and a worker from the Lincoln County Humane Society went to the camp to assist. Campers reported hearing the dog barking throughout the night and believed it had been stuck on the island for four or more days. Neighbors reported it might have been running loose for weeks before ending up on the island.
When the group of would be rescuers reached the island using the Rec. Deputy’s boat, the dog at first went to greet them but then ran away and would not come near them. The group tried to contain the dog to a peninsula on the island hoping to use a catch pole, but the dog jumped in the water and swam an estimated 35 yards to shore where she was met by campers offering it food.
The dog was brought to the Humane Society where it was found in good health, but full of ticks. Although it had no collar or tags and was not microchipped, the dog was reunited with its owner on Monday afternoon. It had been reported missing seven weeks ago from the Tug Lake area.
The dog is pictured along with Tiffany, one of the rescuers from the Lincoln County Humane Society.
