Viewpoint: Government funding bill not all bad
Editor:
The media has focused too much on the negative parts of the recent government funding bill but there are positive things as well. The President’s executive amnesty order will not be funded because the government agencies that will carry it out are only funded through February. The new Congress will have to vote again to fund those agencies before the executive order takes effect.
Additionally, there were significant cuts to agencies like the IRS and EPA. The funding bill responsibly keeps the government funded for the next year, meaning there will not be uncertainty every three months in anticipation of a government shutdown. The bill does not include any new funding for Obamacare and actually lets taxpayers off the hook for bailing out the insurance companies that lose money. Before this bill, the taxpayers would be responsible for that too.
These are just a few of the provisions that we, as conservatives, can be happy about. It isn’t a perfect bill but I am happy to see Representative Duffy voted for the responsible choice of keeping the government funded.
