Man killed in chase with Rhinelander Police
On Monday, June 23, at approximately 8:26 p.m., a Rhinelander Police Officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on Davenport Street on a vehicle for speeding. The operator of the suspect vehicle disregarded the officer’s emergency lights and siren and increased the speed of his vehicle in an apparent effort to elude the officer.
The pursuit continued to the intersection of Highway K at Forest Loop Road where the suspect’s vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch. The 27-year-old male driver passed away at the scene of the crash. The name of the male party is being withheld pending notification of family.
The Rhinelander Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Oneida County Medical Examiner are working in concert and the investigation is ongoing.
