FSA Committee proposes changes to local administrative areas
The Oneida-Florence-Forest-Vilas County FSA (Farm Service Agency) County Committee is proposing to change the local administrative areas (LAAs), according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s FSA office in Oneida and Vilas counties.
The lines are being changed to combine LAA No. 3 (Oneida County) and LAA No. 4 (Vilas County), resulting in one local administrative area for Oneida and Vilas Counties; the other two areas will have no changes.
This change is opened to public comment; send no later than close of business April 1 to the Marathon County FSA Office, located at 326 River Drive, Wausau, WI 54403.
“Lines were not necessarily established to have an equal amount of voters in each local administrative area, but to insure representation of the farming communities and assure minority representation,” COC Chair, Clint Zimbeck said. “The committee members felt that the different aspects of agriculture needed to be represented on the committee. The members considered the types of operations to establish the LAA boundaries. The members also felt with the declining farm numbers, more adequate and fair representation would be achieved as a result of combining the current LAA 3 and 4 into one LAA.”
Committee members set the following boundaries:
County Committee would use the Oneida and Vilas county boundary lines as boundaries to represent the newly delineated LAA No. 3.
This would result in three LAAs with distinctive boundary lines for the area committee and allow representation of farmers in Oneida-Florence-Forest-Vilas Counties.
