Viewpoint: Rep. Paul Ryan should check his facts
Editor:
Rep. Paul Ryan might have done himself a favor by looking up the Presidential Executive Orders list in Wikipedia before he made the following comments about President Obama. He criticized the President for issuing executive orders on major issues like health care rather than going through Congress, arguing that the President was moving toward an “increasingly lawless presidency.”
On ABC’s This Week, Ryan said that the President was subverting Congress with his executive orders, that Ryan believes “is creating a dangerous trend that is contrary to our Constitution.”
Wikipedia list all the Presidents Executive Orders from George Washington to President Obama. It’s worth looking this up because it is obvious all Presidents avail themselves to this practice.
Here are just the last few: Kennedy-214, Johnson-325, Nixon-346, Gerald Ford-169, Carter-320, Reagan-381, G Bush-166, Clinton-364, GW bush- 291, President Obama-168 to date.
So Rep. Ryan, you seem to have a knack in giving out facts without doing the research to make adverse remarks about our President. Not a smart political move.
