Viewpoint: Author feels fear of lawsuits hurting society
Editor:
Like so many of us, when I went to the doctor the other day, I was given a “Notices of Privacy Practices.” Reading through this eight page literature, the political term is “how we are protecting you” but in reality every institution in the United States is so concerned with their bottom line that the fact is they don’t want to be sued. Over the last 5 to 10 years the transformation is like a deer in car headlights.
What has happened in business has affected our private lives to the point where our insurance has gone up, medical needs have increased, as well as everything we have touched. The current company I work for, if you move from one cubicle to another, the corporate manager sizes up how tall you are, the correct chair, as well as the height of your desk, takes note of it and when he leaves tells you if you alter it the company will not be liable. You read that correctly, so if you have health issues on the job and you alter your work place, they are not responsible for compensation of any health issues. How about this one – your in for a doctor’s exam, and he feels as if you need to stay overnight, you say you’re leaving. That insurance coverage you have, may say you aren’t covered, because you declined medical help. That check up will cost you. Do you feel at times you are being controlled by our structured society? You aren’t alone. Smile, more than likely, you are considered a liability.
