Swimmers continue to excel at Merrill meet
Seventy-six young Rhinelander Swim Club swimmers and their families traveled to the Prairie River Middle School in Merrill Dec. 7.
RSC competed against teams from Antigo, Bayfield, Black River Falls, Flambeau/Ladysmith, Fort McCoy, Merrill and Phillips swim teams.
The RSC team made a strong showing at the all-day meet. Angelika Catlin (15) dropped an amazing 19.98 seconds from her 500 yard freestyle for a new time of 7:06.84. Oliver Ferdinand (9) took off 13.90 seconds from his 50 yard freestyle for a new time of 48.30 seconds. Rhea Fernandes (11) dropped 17.21 seconds from her 50 yard freestyle for a time of 52.62 seconds and 11.89 from her 50 yard backstroke for a new time of 1:02.04. Tyr Hemmingstad (8) took off 10.29 seconds from his 25 yard freestyle for a time of 22.99 seconds. Hannah Hoffhein (11) dropped an amazing 19.03 seconds from her 100 yard freestyle for a time of 1:28.37. Martin Hogar (12) took 11.40 seconds from his 100 yard freestyle for a time of 1:24.87 and 18.32 seconds from his 50 yard breaststroke for a new time of 54.94 seconds. Cooper Lindman (11) dropped 16.88 seconds from his 100 breaststroke for a time of 1:48.60. Will Rutkowski (10) took 11.57 seconds off of his 50 yard freestyle for a new time of 43.45 seconds. Liana Teter (9) took off 10.34 seconds from her 50 yard freestyle for a new time of 52.42. Mia Tulowitzky (6) dropped 15.28 seconds from her 25 yard backstroke for a time of 28.87 seconds. And Natasha Wacker (12) took off 13.28 seconds from her 100 yard freestyle for a new time of 1:18.19.
The Rhinelander Swim Club will host a conference meet Saturday, Dec. 14 starting at 10 a.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend. Please come cheer on our local swimmers and help us celebrate 50 years of swimming.
