Students learn about voter registration
Students in three area high schools and Nicolet College learned about and were encouraged to register to vote during National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 24.
The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) were at LUHS in Minocqua, Northland Pines in Eagle River, RHS and Nicolet College in Rhinelander. Informational handouts were made available which describe the registration process and proof of residency documents that are needed.
Students were encouraged to use Wisconsin’s My Vote website, myvote.wi.gov, where you can register to vote, check your voter registration status, find your polling place, and see your sample ballot. Questions were answered and the location of town clerks was also provided.
As a non-partisan celebration, National Voter Registration Day is supported and recognized by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) and falls on every third Tuesday of September. LWVNOW joined with thousands of other volunteers, celebrities, and more than 800 organizations across the country who encouraged eligible citizens to register to vote or to update their information before the 2014 elections.
