Volunteers Needed for Senior Meals in Rhinelander
The Rhinelander Senior Center is in need of Volunteer Meal Drivers for delivering midday meals to homebound elderly residents. Meal routes go out at 10:30 a.m. and take one to two hours. Drivers are paid mileage for the route at 56.5 cents per mile. New drivers are encouraged to ride along with a seasoned driver first, to learn a route and see how it’s done.
Home delivered meals help older adults to stay in their own home as long as they are able by providing a nutritious hot meal five days a week along with a safety check. It is one of the many programs offered by the Oneida County Department on Aging.
The volunteer escort program provides transportation to older adults and people with disabilities for medical and other appointments. This service goes beyond the scope of our in-town weekday bus service. Volunteer drivers are paid 56.5 cents per mile from their own home and back.
Volunteer kitchen help is another opportunity to serve at the Oneida County Senior Dining Site in Rhinelander. Kitchen volunteers package individual meals for delivery, serve the seniors at the congregate dining site and do after meal clean up. Two to four hour shifts are available on your day(s) of preference. For more information on these programs or other volunteer opportunities, call 715-369-6170 or toll free at 800-379-7499.
