Digital Outdoors to install Rhinelander?s first digital billboard
The corner of Courtney and Davenport streets in Rhinelander has undergone a transformation in recent weeks to prepare for the installation of the community’s first outdoor digital sign. The sign, owned by new company Digital Outdoors of Rhinelander, will offer local organizations an opportunity to promote their enterprises in an innovative way that is the first of its kind in the area.
At 5.5 feet tall by 14.3 feet wide, the three-sided screen will offer organizations a canvas for promoting themselves as well as increasing community awareness of EMS events and Amber Alert notifications. The company that owns the sign, Digital Outdoors, is a new Rhinelander-based company led by Amanda Sampey. The installation of the downtown Rhinelander sign is the company’s first venture.
“We’ve been in the process of organizing this project for the past couple of years and the construction has really moved quickly,” Sampey notes. “With a completion date of late May, we’re really excited to be able to offer this installment. Our aim is to unite the community as much as possible.”
The sign will be a static billboard with no movements on the screens that would distract drivers from the focus of the road. The sign will be LED-lit and will feature a new graphic every six seconds. “This is the first digital sign in the Northwoods area,” Sampey said. “We’re listening to the concerns of the community to gauge what their interests are and their overall receptiveness to the display.”
Aside from the sign installation, Digital Outdoors is also landscaping a garden on the corner to beautify the downtown area. Shrubs and flowers are expected to be planted by late fall. “We really want the area to be pleasing to the eye for residents and tourists,” said Sampey. “This space gives us the perfect opportunity to create an aesthetically appealing entrance into the downtown area.”
The corner was home to a pre-existing sign in need of renovation and Digital Outdoors seized the opportunity for expansion, as residents were already accustomed to the presence of a sign in the area.
