Phillips Chain O? Lakes Triathlon in July
The community of Phillips will welcome all racers interested in competing in the fifth annual Marshfield Clinic and Flambeau Hospital Phillips Chain of Lakes Triathlon Saturday, July 13. The race includes a 1/4- mile swim, an 18-mile bike and a 3.1-mile run. Participants may choose to do all three legs of the race on their own or compete as a team of two or three people. Registration is open until the morning of the event, with the race beginning at 9 a.m.
Past events have drawn competitors from across the Midwest, many other states and two other countries. They have reported enjoying the scenery, including the easy sloping terrain of the bike ride, and the views of the lake as they run on blacktop, gravel and grass along the shoreline. Unique to this race is the point-to-point swim, beginning with a short pontoon ride to the starting line.
Registration for this event includes chip timing by Duluth Running Co. Timing & Event Services, awards for top finishers in each age category, a catered lunch, official race T-shirt, a free annual subscription to Silent Sports magazine (one per household), and a goody bag with gifts from the sponsors. Vendors, including The Crazy Loon, Diane Wagner Massage and Small Town Sports, will also be on hand with race-day specials.
For those who hope to cheer on their friends, families and neighbors, entertainment includes a DJ at the transition area, a children’s free Steeplechase event and a fan bus.
Sponsors include Marshfield Clinic and Flambeau Hospital, Zing Zang Bloody Mary Mix, MarquipWardUnited, Phillips Medisize, AC Carpet Plus and Price County TelCom. The event is also made possible by the services or donations of the Price County Sheriff, Phillips City Police, the Price County Ambulance Service, DNR warden Jason Bayer, the Price County Highway Department, the local Boy Scouts troops, Birchland Realty, the R Store of Phillips, Georgia Pacific and many volunteers.
