Obituary: Doris L. Hougen
Doris L. Hougen, 85, of Rhinelander, died Sept. 14, 2012, at her home in Rhinelander. She was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Calipatria, Calif., to William Everett Pierce and Lucile Marguerite Pierce(Burch).
Doris is survived bu her husband, Harvey Richard “Dick” Hougen; and their children, Diane Anderson (Ron) of Sidney, Ohio, Mari Jane Peak (Brad) of Parkville, Mo.; and Richard of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Janice Cueller of Belton, Texas and Carole Mueller (Larry) of Yorktown, Texas; and a brother, Lyle Waddell of Temple, Texas. Doris is also survived by two granddaughters, six grandsons, and five great grandchildren, as well as two nieces and four nephews. She was preceded by her parents; her sister, Marilyn Maxine Pierce; and a nephew.
Doris’s son, Richard speaking for the rest of the family described his mother as “a compassionate, gentle and beautiful woman with a tremendous capacity for love. She loved animals, gardening, cute kittens and her family and friends.” Doris loved to laugh. She had a keen sense of humor, and an inexplicable talent for making the ordinary beautiful. She will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m., at the Carlson Funeral Home with the Reverend Chris Hucker officiating. A visitation will be held at the Carlson Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 21, from 9:30 a.m. until just prior to the services. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.
