Obituary: Nellie Spengler
Nellie Spengler, 104, of Rhinelander, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Taylor Park. She was born on March 17, 1908, in Rhinelander, to Albert and Margaret (Skubal) Briggs.
Nellie was raised in Rhinelander and attended schools here. She moved to Milwaukee in 1945. Nellie was employed as a stock clerk at J.C. Penney in Rhinelander as well as in Milwaukee. She then worked at Gugler Lithographic Company for many years until her retirement in 1970. She returned to Rhinelander in 1997. Nellie loved to cook and enjoyed baking cookies to give to friends who did special favors for her. She also enjoyed playing the piano for her church and for her own pleasure. Her other hobbies included crocheting, swimming and reading.
Nellie is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Louis) Yourchak of Rhinelander; her son, Marvin Spengler of Rhinelander; a daughter-in-law, Nancie of Brookfield; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Merle Spengler; a son, Albert; a daughter-in-law, Shirley; a brother, Dexter; and a sister-in-law, Beatrice.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Rhinelander with Rev. James Mickelson officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church. Interment will take place in Valhalla Memorial Park in Milwaukee on Saturday, Sept. 15.
