Sheriff’s Department to sponsor hunter education classes
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Department is sponsoring two Wisconsin DNR Certified Hunter Education Courses. The date, times and location for the courses are as follows:
• Course One: Monday Sept. 10, Tuesday Sept. 11, Thursday, Sept. 13, Monday, Sept. 24, Wednesday, Sept. 26 and Tuesday, Sept. 27. Range day will be Saturday, Sept. 29.
• Course Two: Monday, Oct. 8, Tuesday, Oct. 9, Thursday, Oct. 11, Monday, Oct. 15, Tuesday, Oct. 16 and Thursday, Oct. 18. Range day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The classroom portion will be held at the Oneida County Law Enforcement Center located at 2000 East Winnebago St. in Rhinelander, and will run from 4 to 7 p.m. The range portion will be held at the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office training range, and will run from 8 to 11 a.m.
Students must be 12 years old to enroll. There is no maximum age, and parents and adults are encouraged to enroll and participate in this course. The course fee is $10 per person, and space will be limited to 15 students. Attendance at all sessions is required. An adult must accompany the children the first day for a short informational presentation.
Students are now required to obtain a DNR customer ID number for any recreational safety class they attend. Call the DNR at (888) 936-7463 between 7 a.m and 10 p.m to obtain this number before the course begins. Advanced registration is required.
