YMCA offering senior weight loss and maintenance program
The YMCA of the Northwoods will be offering two classes this fall to help older adults lose weight, exercise more and eat healthier. The SMART Weight Loss for Seniors class will be held on Tuesdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 11.
“If you are 55+ years old and struggling to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, this education and support program may be just right for you,” said YMCA Active Older Adult Coordinator Marilyn Duschl. “Older adults have unique challenges and needs when it comes to losing weight. This program is designed to meet their special needs.”
Past participants have lost weight, made positive changes in their eating habits and exercise routines, have set realistic goals and have learned how to be accountable for their goals. The program will include weekly weigh-ins, body measurements, exercise recommendations, nutritional re-education and self-management skill development. The cost for the programs is $50 for members and $65 for the general public.
The Y is also offering a Stay SMART class for those who have completed the SMART program and would like to continue their education and motivational support. During this class participants will weigh in, reassess their goals, learn new weight loss strategies and provide support to each other. The 45-minute class will be held on Thursdays at 11:45 a.m. beginning Sept. 13. The cost is $20 for members and $35 for the general public.
For more information, or to register for either class, call the YMCA at (715) 362-9622.
