Hodag MASH Blood Drive coming on Tuesday, July 10
The 3rd annual Hodag MASH Blood Drive is being planned for Tuesday, July 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The drive will be held at Pioneer Park on Oneida Street in Rhinelander, and is an effort to boost blood donations after the 4th of July holiday.
This MASH-themed event draws volunteer blood donors from throughout the Northwoods. Camouflage, dog tags, and olive drab create a fun atmosphere, and organizers expect around 150 people to donate blood during the one-day blood drive. From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Ministry Saint Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary will be providing lunch for blood donors.
“The Hodag MASH Blood Drive will play a big role in ensuring that we are able to replenish the blood supply after Independence Day week,” explained Jan Hadsell of the Community Blood Center. “Blood donations always drop around the 4th of July, and the blood donors who give blood at MASH will be giving a much-needed boost to the blood supply at this critical time.”
Donation appointments are highly recommended, and may be made by calling the Community Blood Center at (800) 280-4102, or visiting save3lives.org. Scheduling an appointment in advance reduces waiting time, keeping the total time required for a donation to less than an hour. Walk-in donors are also welcome.
“Giving blood at MASH is really a great experience. You’re surrounded by people who want to make a difference, and you really start to realize the impact of what you’re doing. If you’ve never come to MASH, join us at Pioneer Park on Tuesday- we look forward to seeing you!” added Hadsell.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, and bring a photo ID. Donors are encouraged to eat a regular meal and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating.
