Sheriff’s department to host boating safety course
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Department is sponsoring a Wisconsin DNR Certified Boating Safety Course. The department invites all individuals interested in recreational boating to enroll in this course, which will be held June 25-26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 25 and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 26, in conjunction with the Three Lakes Police Department, at the Three Lakes Community Center, 6965 West School Street. Call Sue at the Three Lakes Police Department at (715) 546-2211 to register for this class.
Wisconsin has passed a Mandatory Boating Education Bill. This bill requires anyone born on or after 1-1-89 and at least 16 years of age to have a boating safety certificate to operate a motorboat on Wisconsin’s waterways.
Students are now required to obtain a DNR customer ID number for any recreational safety class they attend. Call the DNR at (888) 936-7463 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily to obtain this number before the course begins.
Students must be at least 12 years old to enroll. There is no maximum age, and parents and adults are encouraged to enroll and participate in the courses. The course fee is $10, which covers all necessary materials.
