6th Grade essay contest winners announced
The Oneida Senior Center, Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers and the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups sponsored an essay contest for sixth graders across Wisconsin during May, Older Americans Month. Participating students wrote a 300-word (or less) essay on “My Grandparents” or “My Best Older Friend.” They were judged on the attachment between old and young, originality, organization and cohesion, sixth grade level work, and grammar and spelling.
There were 62 total entries from 5 classes. The winning essays from Oneida County were by Jacob Sinclair from James Williams Middle School and Romi Remick from Sugar Camp Elementary School. Their teachers are Mrs. Creadon and Mr. Kuchenbecker, respectively.
The winning entries were also submitted to the state level competition. Both winners received a $25 gift card from Walmart and a certificate of achievement. Wisconsin Public Service donated throwing disks, pencils, erasers and bendy sticks for all participating students.
