Letter: Votes are more valuable than dollars by June Schmaal
Editor:
Here we are, the week before Election Day, and many voters are still undecided. One wonders if their only method of informing themselves is watching political ads or listening to uninformed folks who haven’t been thinking through the shenanigans that the Walker administration has sneaked through with no public hearings. The mining company, which was encouraged and delighted to draw us its own contract with no attention paid to environmental consequences, is a chilling example. Governor Walker’s Criminal Defense Fund is another. Why does he need a Criminal Defense Fund anyway?
Do voters know that the Republican Party has ten times as much money to spend on campaign advertising than does the Democratic Party? Diane Hendricks gave the Governor $500,000 to boost his campaign. It’s no wonder that he can travel around the country seeking even more money to fill his wallet.
The Supreme Court cannot limit campaign spending, so it is up to us voters to vote for Tom Barrett and prove that all the money in the world cannot buy our Wisconsin election. Votes are far more valuable than dollars.
