O’Melia is the most-well-rounded by Richard E. Sommer
Editor:
I am pleased to endorse the candidacy of John O’Melia as a candidate for the Circuit Court vacancy that now exists in Oneida County. I am a trial lawyer, and as such I have had the pleasure of opposing Mr. O’Melia in a number of cases involving various circumstances. John O’Melia is an earnest, hard-working and honest lawyer. He is a formidable opponent. In his trial practice, and elsewhere I believe he has served his clients admirably without self consideration. These are attributes that I consider to be among the best qualities that a lawyer can possess.
John O’Melia has a vast experience in handling cases on the civil side of the law, as well as experience in defending clients who have been charged with criminal violations. In other words, he has a complete and well-rounded acquaintance with a myriad of subjects that we all encounter on a daily basis. Often times judges arise from the ranks of practicing district attorneys. This background may induce a splendid knowledge of criminal law without a wisp of civil practice. John O’Melia has it all, and I heartily endorse his candidacy for the vacant Oneida County Circuit Court bench.
I have had the opportunity to know and understand many of the circuit court judges before whom I have practiced over the last 50 years. John O’Melia has served honorably as a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Wisconsin over which I have had the honor to preside as President of the Wisconsin State Bar. Thus, I believe I bring an insight into the requirements of what makes a good judge, and I am confident that John O’Melia can and will fulfill the position of Circuit Judge for Oneida County better than any other candidate for that position.
