Upcoming events at the YMCA
Older adults at the Y learn about hearing health
Jesse Kaster from Hearing Advantage will share his knowledge on hearing health. Jesse is nationally board certified as a hearing instrument specialist in the state of Wisconsin and will be able to answer questions on diseases of the ear, the latest in hearing aids and hearing health. Many older adults start to lose their hearing with advanced age, but there are ways to improve hearing and maintain the ability to socialize and remain active.
This program is free and open to anyone in the community. For more information contact Marilyn Duschl at (715) 362-9622, ext. 118.
Become a junior lifeguard
Junior Lifeguarding has a strong focus on developing swimming skills to help participants meet the lifeguarding course prerequisite. The course also introduces participants to lifesaving skills, such as in-water rescues, use of a rescue tube and first aid, CPR and AED. Participants also have the opportunity to shadow lifeguards in rotation to get a real sense of being on the job.
Junior Lifeguarding classes start Feb. 26 at the YMCA. To register, call the YMCA at (715) 362-9622 or stop by the Welcome Center.
The Junior Lifeguarding course (formerly known as “GuardStart”) is a key component of the lifeguarding program. Designed for kids ages 11 to 14, it helps build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills for future lifeguards. It creates a lifeguarding feeder program to help aquatics supervisors recruit the most promising lifeguarding candidates for future employment.
The Y is hosting its monthly “Lunch & Brain Games” on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rhinelander facility. The pot luck theme is “breakfast for lunch.” Those attending are asked to bring a breakfast food to share at lunch, such as a breakfast casserole, muffins or bread.
